At Everstrong, we have the privilege of witnessing something remarkable: the point where survivor resilience and community generosity meet.
Through the Ginny Fund, we see people working to create stability for themselves and their families. We also see the impact of donors who choose to invest in that journey.
These days, with rising costs all around, there are so many ways that one setback can blow progress completely off track.
Joe’s story is one example.
After experiencing homelessness, Joe*, a single dad and survivor, had worked hard to create stability for himself and his young daughter. He had made significant progress in a year’s time: securing housing, finding full-time employment, and focusing on building a brighter future.
Then at the end of 2025, a hit-and-run accident left his vehicle severely damaged. Unusable.
Suddenly, the transportation he relied on to get to work and care for his family was gone.
Without reliable transportation, and with no viable public transit options, he relied on rideshares to get to work and pick up his daughter from school. The cost quickly became unsustainable, straining his limited budget and putting his employment at risk.
Thanks to the generous donations of our community to the Ginny Fund, Everstrong was able to help cover the cost of repairs, ensuring Joe could maintain stability and continue building on the progress he fought hard to achieve.
Joe’s experience reflects a challenge many survivors face. Stability is rarely built through a single milestone. It is built day by day, often while navigating financial barriers, family responsibilities, and unexpected setbacks.
Sometimes, timely support can make the difference between a temporary obstacle and a crisis.
The Ginny Fund helps survivors like Joe address some of life’s biggest barriers to success — like housing stability and transportation. We hear this again and again: without a safe place to sleep or a way to get to work, everything else becomes harder to hold onto.
A donor doesn’t often know who they’ll be helping when they give. But thanks to our donors, Joe’s daughter now has a way home from school, and a survivor who had already fought his way back from homelessness didn’t have to start over.
The Ginny Fund allows us to quietly close the distance between a donor’s generosity and a family’s stability — without either of them ever knowing the other’s name.
